Hainan 59 Country Visa Free Entry Policy Guide

Hainan has extremely convenient Visa Free policy that make it easy and quick for visitors from 59 countries to enter Hainan! Find out how.

1.  How to Enter Hainan Visa Free

As of February 9th, 2024, citizens of the 59 Visa Free eligible countries holding ordinary passports (other travel document holders are not eligible for visa free entry) may enter Hainan Province for commercial activities and trade, visit and exchange, and family reunions, receiving medical treatment, attending exhibitions, taking part in sporting events and other needs (excluding long-term working and studying) for up to 30 days without a visa. For visa free entry in accordance with the newly expanded travel purposes, please prepare necessary supporting documents such as invitation letters, hotel bookings, and so on in order to facilitate rapid visa free entry. Foreign nationals who need to enter Hainan for the aforementioned purposes can enter through any open port in the province and remain in the province's administrative area during their stay periods (subject to the relevant provisions if applicable to mutual visa exemption agreements signed with China). Each entry period is calculated from 00:00 on the day following the day of entry. 

Note: Travelers from the 59 visa free entry eligible countries may travel from or through Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, or any other place outside Mainland China with a direct flight to Hainan. Upon arrival, visa-free travelers must fill in the entry application card at the port of arrival in accordance with visa free entry regulations. 

2.  List of 59 Countries eligible for Visa Free Entry to Hainan：

Russia, the UK, France, Germany, Norway, Ukraine, Italy, Austria, Finland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ireland, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia, Albania, the United States, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Philippines, Indonesia, Brunei, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Monaco, and Belarus. 

3.  The maximum length of stay for visa free travelers in Hainan is 30 days.Each entry period is calculated from 00:00 on the day following the day of entry. 

4. Legal obligations and Responsibilities

According to the "Exit and Entry Administration Law of the People's Republic of China", the "Regulations of the People's Republic of China on the Administration of Entry and Exit of Aliens" and other relevant laws and regulations, visa free travelers staying in hotels in Hainan Province must register with their passports upon arrival.

A) Travelers must register within the specified time limits.

When staying at hotels in China, international travelers must register with their passports at the hotel upon arrival. When staying in other locations, the traveler or host must register the traveler with the public security office responsible for the district within 24 hours of arrival. Those who fail to register on time shall be given a warning and fined.

B) Travelers must leave China prior to the expiry of their duration of stay.

Travelers or residents in China and must not engage in activities inconsistent with their purpose of stay or residence, and must leave China before their specified period of stay or residence expires. Those who reside in China illegally will be given a warning. Where circumstances are serious, they will be fined or detained.

5.  Travelers who need to travel to other parts of China must apply for a visa.

Visa free travelers who need to extend their stay in Hainan or travel to other parts of mainland China must apply at the Hainan Public Security Bureau Exit-Entry Department at least 7 days in advance.

Visa application locations: Visa free travelers in Haikou, Sanya, Yangpu, Wenchang, Qionghai, or Chengmai may apply for a visa at the local Exit & Entry Administration Office. Travelers in other Hainan locations must apply at the Exit-Entry Administration Bureau of the Hainan Provincial Public Security Department.

Required documents for visa to extend stay in Hainan:

(1) For exchanges, visits, inspections and other activities: materials such as letters of certification issued by the invitation and host institution are required.

(2) Travel: travel plans, travel arrangements and other materials are required, and travel agency certification letters and other materials are required for group travel.

(3) Commercial trade activities: documents such as certificates issued by the inviting body are required.

(4) To visit a relative in China: documents issued by the person to be visited, such as letters, identity certificates and certificates of family member relationship are required.

(5) High-level talents needed by the state and urgently needed special talents: high-level talent certification and certification letters from the inviting and hosting bodies are required.

(6) To visit a relative staying or residing in China for work, study or other purposes, or for other private affairs: a letter issued by the person to be visited, the relative's residence permit and proof of relationship among family members is required. Other personnel are required to submit relevant materials such as certificates of handling personal affairs or having humanitarian reasons.
